The Top 6 Non-Reasons for Clutter

January 21, 2009 · Posted in Declutter Daily, Hoarding

CNN and Real Simple have published a fantastic article about clutter today.  It’s not one of your typical “how to get your not-really-cluttered house a little more uncluttered.”  This article really gets to the roots of our rationales for keeping the stuff we don’t love and don’t need.  And it provides help with replacing these non-reasons with more useful ways of thinking about clutter.

Haven’t we all said things like this before?

  • If I get rid of this wedding vase, I’ll feel guilty.
  • But I might need seven sleeping bags one day.
  • I think this brooch/chair/ugly knickknack might be valuable again.
  • If I put the bills away, I’ll never pay them on time.
  • I want this chartreuse muumuu to go to a good home.
  • I want to declutter, but I can’t get motivated.

Go read the article now to get some great solutions for these dilemmas — and bookmark the article :)
